A dioxin ! chemical causes cancer, especially breast cancer.

Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us..
He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers...

This especially applies to foods that contain fat.

He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body...
Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heat! ing food... You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else.
Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.
He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons...

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.
Cover food with a paper towel instead.

FDA Approves PROVENGE(R) for the Treatment of Men with Advanced Prostate Cancer

SEATTLE, April 29, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --Dendreon Corporation (Nasdaq: DNDN) today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved PROVENGE(R) (sipuleucel-T), an autologous cellular immunotherapy for the treatment of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic metastatic, castrate-resistant (hormone-refractory) prostate cancer (CRPC). PROVENGE is designed to induce an immune response against prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP), an antigen expressed in most prostate cancers, and is the first in a new therapeutic class known as autologous cellular immunotherapies.

Dendreon intends to make PROVENGE available through approximately 50 centers, all of which were approved PROVENGE clinical trial sites, and expects to increase capacity over the next year. The increased capacity will be a result of the anticipated licensure of its expanded New Jersey, Atlanta, Georgia and Orange County, Calif. facilities in mid-2011.

"The approval of PROVENGE, the first autologous cellular immunotherapy, represents a significant scientific and clinical advancement for the treatment of prostate cancer," said Philip Kantoff, M.D., Director of the Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology, Chief of the Division of Solid Tumor Oncology, and Chief Clinical Research Officer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. "Cancer immunotherapies that use the patient's own immune system will likely create an entirely new treatment paradigm for patients with cancer."

Clinical Trial Results Supporting FDA Approval

Three Phase 3 studies involving 737 patients were submitted to FDA to support licensure. The pivotal study was the Phase 3 IMPACT (IMmunotherapy for Prostate AdenoCarcinoma Treatment) trial (D9902B), a 512-patient, multi-center, randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled study that evaluated men with asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic, metastatic CRPC. PROVENGE extended median survival beyond two-years, demonstrating a median improvement of 4.1 months compared to the control group (25.8 months versus 21.7 months). Overall, PROVENGE reduced the risk of death by 22.5 percent compared to the control group (HR=0.775). Results from the similarly designed Study D9901 in asymptomatic metastatic CRPC also demonstrated a survival advantage of similar clinical magnitude as the IMPACT study.

PROVENGE offers a new choice in the front line treatment for these men who - until today - had few appealing treatment options," said David Penson, M.D., Professor of Urologic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

PROVENGE Safety

PROVENGE is intended solely for autologous use and is not routinely tested for transmissible infectious diseases.

The safety evaluation of PROVENGE was based on 601 prostate cancer patients in four randomized clinical trials who underwent at least one leukapheresis procedure. The most common adverse events (incidence greater-than or equal to 15%) are chills, fatigue, fever, back pain, nausea, joint ache, and headache. Serious adverse events reported in the PROVENGE group include acute infusion reactions (occurring within 1 day of infusion) and cerebrovascular events. In controlled clinical trials, severe (Grade 3) acute infusion reactions were reported in 3.5% of patients in the PROVENGE group. Reactions included chills, fever, fatigue, asthenia, dyspnea, hypoxia, bronchospasm, dizziness, headache, hypertension, muscle ache, nausea, and vomiting. No Grade 4 or 5 acute infusion reactions were reported in patients in the PROVENGE group.

To fulfill a post marketing requirement and as a part of the company's ongoing commitment to patients, Dendreon will conduct a registry of approximately 1500 patients to further evaluate a small potential safety signal of cerebrovascular events. In four randomized clinical trials of PROVENGE in prostate cancer patients, cerebrovascular events were observed in 3.5% of patients in the PROVENGE arm compared with 2.6% of patients in the control arm.

Low–cost diagnostic tool for detection of cancer in the human body.

An Indian scientist has developed a blood–based cancer biomarker, which can potentially work as a low–cost diagnostic tool to detect different human cancers. It is perhaps the world’s first low–cost diagnostic tool for detection of cancer in the human body.

Early cancer detection can significantly enhance chances of a patient’s recovery. “It is a simple blood–test kit, much like a pregnancy or diabetes test. I have developed a bio–molecular marker of cancer in blood, which can easily track cancer through blood test,” R N Sharan of the North–Eastern Hills University said. The biomolecular tool has passed preliminary trials and is now being vetted through multicentre tests in the US and Japan. The kit may be ready for mass production in about two to three years’ time, he said. “The test can be performed by any individual at home and it should not cost more than Rs 100–150. What it requires is a small amount of blood, which can be drawn from a finger tip,” he said.

Sharan, a leading biochemist said it took him and his team of PhD students over two decades to develop the kit. “Numerous scientific aspects need to be looked into and understood in mouse and cell culture models before a sound hypothesis can be put forward,” he said.

Urine test predicted results of prostate biopsy | HemOncToday: "The PCA3 urine test accurately predicted whether a prostate biopsy would detect cancer in a prospective subanalysis of patients in the Reduction by Dutasteride of Prostate Cancer Events — or REDUCE — trial.

Jack Groskopf, PhD, director of research and development in cancer diagnostics at Gen-Probe, presented the findings of the analysis during a press conference in advance of the 2010 Genitourinary Cancers Symposium. He said these latest results expand on previous studies indicating that the PCA3 test is another tool to determine how frequently prostate cancer biopsies are necessary.

The PCA3 gene is over-expressed in prostate cancers but not in benign prostate disorders such as prostatitis or enlarged prostate. The PCA3 molecular test measures PCA3 expression in urine samples. The test is being test marketed in Europe and is available in some certified laboratories in the United States as a laboratory developed test.

“The PCA3 scores correlated with risk of a positive biopsy,” Groskopf said. “We also found that PCA3 could add value on top of a multivariate model using serum PSA and other clinical information. PCA3 had greater specificity than serum PSA.”

When comparing PCA3 scores at two years vs. biopsy outcomes at four years, it is possible that PCA3 picked up cancers undetected by biopsy, according to Groskopf.

Researchers evaluated the test in 1,072 men in the placebo arm of REDUCE. They found that only 6% of men with a PCA3 score less than 5 were later diagnosed with cancer. In contrast, 57% of those with a score of 100 or greater were later found to have cancer.

Groskopf said median PCA3 scores were higher in men with high-grade cancers than in those with low-grade cancers. In addition, men with elevated PCA3 scores and a negative biopsy at two years from baseline were twice as likely to have cancer detected through prostate biopsy at four years compared with men with lower PCA3 scores.

1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion.
When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.


2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.


3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumours.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.


7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumour size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumour destruction.

WHAT CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful.
A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.




b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells are being starved.


c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.


d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts)and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).


e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.


12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrefied and leads to more toxic build-up.


13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Florescence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
